ABOUT CHRIS GREENA PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE ON GUIDING
NQF4 Cultural and Wilderness Guide (Guide GP, NW, MP, WC, NL 6072) Every person or culture leaves some sort of trace or legacy. We hear about the exciting world that South Africa presents and I am passionate about this remarkable land I live in. I grew up in Johannesburg and love the raw energy and creativity of the city. I am a qualified wilderness guide, working specifically in that field for seven years before using my knowledge and experience to run a specialised training and change-management company. I am also a qualified cultural guide with a love of history, geology and paleontology. Though born and bred in Johannesburg, I have travelled widely and worked throughout the Southern African region. Our view is informed by our experience, whether we like it or not. I do not apologise for my education and background, I am exceptionally grateful for the opportunities I have had. That fact helps me to unravel some of what I show my guests. The tours aim to provide a stimulating and enjoyable exploration of the city or wilderness areas we go to. |
My tours are not structured around a tight "route" or agenda, but seek a balance between guests' requests and giving a true reflection of Johannesburg. The incredibly short, violent, diverse and complex history of Johannesburg demands sufficient detail for explanation but enough flexibility to ensure a balanced and fair representation.
" You know Chris, I have realised that what you have given me is a tour of your Johannesburg - all the places we went to you knew well and understood them. The explanations were clear, I have a good idea of Johannesburg now - that is exactly what I wanted"
Sigurd, town planner and architect - Denmark
