THE PILANESBERG | NORTH WEST
The Pilanesberg tour is a full day tour. I began my professional safari guiding career in this park and have retained an interest in it ever since. This popular reserve is located two hours from Johannesburg and is home to a wide range of animal and bird species. The world famous Sun City is located on the south-west periphery of the Reserve.
Currently we offer one day excursions as well as over night safaris; I do one, two or three night camping trips. All camping equipment is supplied. Guests also have the option of staying in parks board chalets should they not wish to camp.
"I'd urge you to go on one of Chris's bush trips. We went on a day trip to the Pilanesberg - no time for Kruger Park. There isn't a thing about this area this man doesn't know!"
Greg - musician and teacher - Glasgow, Scotland
This is a sample itinerary for a day trip:
We leave Johannesburg before dawn, arriving at the Reserve shortly after 8.00am. We return after dark. Guide books and binoculars are available. We take a cooler box with refreshments and snacks, and stop for a picnic lunch.
Alternatively, we can stop at one of several venues in the Reserve for lunch.

- The whole day is spent in the park, with several stops wherever there is game spotted and at game viewing hides or other venues.
- The park is interesting all year round, the short grass in winter is particularly good for game viewing but this is not a limiting factor - we see good game all year around. Summer months are better for birders, tree lovers and the birth of young animals.
- The park is stunningly pretty in the summer but dramatic and austere in winter.
- We depart late afternoon and arrive back in Johannesburg around 7.00pm.
- The Hartebeespoort Dam makes a convenient halfway stop.
